Download Your Granola Transcripts Before the Retention Timer Does Its Job

Granola transcripts are not permanent by default. Retention settings can delete them automatically after a set period, and on Enterprise plans an admin can enforce an org-wide deletion schedule you do not control. The AI summary may survive, but the verbatim record - who said what, in their exact words - goes with the timer.

TranscriptExporter for Granola downloads every transcript while it still exists: one file per meeting through Granola's official API, transcript and AI notes together, in plain text, Markdown, JSON, or CSV. $29 once, lifetime license.

Download every transcript in three steps

Create a Granola API key

API keys are available on Granola Business ($14 per user per month) and Enterprise plans. One key, generated once in your Granola settings.

Connect the extension

Install TranscriptExporter from the Chrome Web Store, activate your license, and paste the key. Setup is covered step by step in the docs.

Run the download

Every meeting with a finished AI summary comes down as its own file, transcript included. The files save straight from Granola to your computer - nothing routes through our servers.

Exactly what Granola stores, nothing invented

The downloaded transcript is a faithful copy of Granola's record. Where Granola identified a named speaker, the name is there; where it did not, you see the transcript as Granola kept it. TranscriptExporter does not re-process, re-attribute, or embellish anything.

Why the verbatim record matters

Summaries compress; transcripts prove. A summary tells you the client agreed to the timeline. The transcript shows the sentence where they said it. For disputes, compliance reviews, handoffs, and plain old memory, the exact words are the asset.

Deleted means deleted. Once a retention period ends, the transcript is gone from Granola and no export tool - ours included - can bring it back. A standing habit of downloading, or one full run today, is the only insurance.

Your copy is yours. A folder of transcript files on your own disk is immune to plan changes, policy changes, and account changes. It is searchable with the tools you already have.

Common questions

Does Granola really delete transcripts?

Retention settings can remove transcripts automatically after a set period, and Enterprise admins can enforce deletion org-wide. If your workspace has a retention policy, every transcript has an expiry date.

Are speaker names included?

Where Granola identified a named speaker, yes. The download reflects exactly what Granola stores - no more, no less.

What formats do I get?

Plain text, Markdown, JSON, or CSV. Each meeting is its own file with the transcript and the AI notes together.

Can it recover already-deleted transcripts?

No. Nothing can. The extension exports what Granola's API can still return, which is why downloading before the retention timer fires is the whole point.
