Granola Export FAQ

Everything you need to know about bulk exporting Granola notes and transcripts

How do I export all my Granola notes and transcripts at once?

With TranscriptExporter for Granola, a full export takes minutes:

  1. Install the Chrome extension
  2. Enter your license key (GRANOLA-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXXX)
  3. Create a Granola API key in the desktop app under Settings, Connectors, API keys, and paste it in
  4. Pick filters and formats, then click export

The export runs in the background and a ZIP downloads automatically, with every meeting as its own file: AI notes and full transcript together.

Does it work on the free Granola plan?

No. The extension connects through a Granola API key, and Granola only offers API keys on its Business and Enterprise plans. If your workspace is on either one, you can create a key in about a minute.

  • Granola Business: supported. Create your API key in the desktop app under Settings, Connectors, API keys.
  • Granola Enterprise: supported. Same steps, though a workspace admin may need to enable API access for members first.
  • Granola Free: not supported. Free workspaces cannot create API keys.

Requirements

  • A Granola workspace on a Business or Enterprise plan
  • Google Chrome

Do you see my Granola data?

No. Your data never touches our servers:

  • Your key stays on your device: the API key is stored by the extension in Chrome on your own machine
  • Direct download: files travel straight from Granola to your computer
  • No data storage: we never see, store, or transmit your notes or transcripts
  • Revocable anytime: delete the key in Granola and the extension loses access instantly

Can I export my whole team's meetings?

Yes. Your API key's scope decides what you can export:

  • Personal notes scope: your own meetings only
  • Public notes scope (or a workspace key): everything your workspace can see, including teammates' meetings

Granola's built-in export cannot do this at all. By Granola's own documentation, workspace admins cannot export other members' notes. A Public-scope key with TranscriptExporter is currently the only way to take a team-wide backup.

What about meetings that are still processing?

A meeting becomes exportable once Granola has finished generating its AI summary, usually within a few minutes of the meeting ending. If a meeting just wrapped up, give it a moment and run the export again.

If a transcript was already deleted by your workspace's retention settings, the meeting still exports with its metadata and AI notes, and the file says plainly that the transcript is no longer available.

What format are the exported files?

Every meeting exports as its own file, in any combination of:

  • TXT for plain-text archives that open anywhere
  • Markdown that drops straight into Obsidian or Notion
  • JSON for your own scripts and tooling

Everything arrives in a single ZIP with a README.pdf index, and filenames carry a short note ID so same-title meetings never overwrite each other. Compare that with Granola's native export: one CSV file, at most once every 24 hours, via an emailed link that expires in 24 hours.

Will every transcript have named speakers?

Not always. You get notes and transcripts exactly as Granola stores them:

  • Real names when Granola identified the speaker
  • "Speaker A" / "Speaker B" on mobile recordings where voices were separated but not named
  • "Your name (me)" and "Other participant" otherwise: Granola transcripts without speaker tags only distinguish your microphone from other people's audio

The extension never invents names. What Granola knows is what you get.

  • API keys stop working if your workspace drops below a Business or Enterprise plan

"A meeting is missing"

  • Its AI summary may not be finished yet, wait a few minutes
  • Check your date, folder, and keyword filters
  • A Personal-scope key cannot see teammates' meetings

"Invalid license key"
