Installation & Setup

Two Ways to Get Started

There are two paths to installing TranscriptExporter depending on how you discovered it:

Path A: Website First

  1. Visit transcriptexport.com/fireflies
  2. Purchase license ($29)
  3. Receive email with Chrome Web Store link
  4. Install extension from Chrome Web Store
  5. Enter license key from email
  6. Add your Fireflies API key
  7. Start exporting

Path B: Chrome Web Store First

  1. Find extension in Chrome Web Store
  2. Install extension (free)
  3. Open extension - see "Need License" message
  4. Click link to purchase
  5. Purchase license ($29)
  6. Enter license key in extension
  7. Add your Fireflies API key
  8. Start exporting

Getting Your Fireflies API Key

Step-by-Step API Key Setup

  1. Go to Fireflies API Settings:
    app.fireflies.ai/integrations/custom/fireflies
  2. Click "Generate API Key" (or copy your existing key if you have one)
  3. Copy the API key - it's a long string of letters and numbers
  4. Paste into TranscriptExporter - open the extension and paste your key

Your API Key is Secure

  • Your API key stays in your browser - never sent to our servers
  • It connects directly to Fireflies to download your transcripts
  • You can regenerate your API key anytime in Fireflies settings

License Key Activation

Activating Your License

  1. Click the TranscriptExporter icon in your Chrome toolbar
  2. Enter your license key (starts with FIREFLIES-)
  3. Click "Validate License"
  4. Wait for "License Valid" confirmation

Device Limits

Each license can be activated on maximum 3 devices. If you need to use it on more devices, contact support for additional licenses.

Using TranscriptExporter

Basic Export Process

  1. Open Extension - Click the TranscriptExporter icon in your toolbar
  2. Verify Connection - Ensure your API key is connected (green checkmark)
  3. Configure Filters (optional) - Set date ranges or keywords
  4. Choose Export Options - Select what to include (transcript, summary, action items, etc.)
  5. Start Export - Click "Start Export" button
  6. Wait for Completion - Extension shows real-time progress
  7. Download ZIP - All transcripts packaged automatically

Filtering Options

Date Filtering

  • Set start date and end date
  • Format: MM/DD/YYYY
  • Leave blank to export all dates
  • Useful for quarterly exports

Keyword Filtering

  • Comma-separated keywords
  • Example: "Sales Call, Demo, Q4"
  • Matches meeting titles
  • Leave blank to export all meetings

Have thousands of transcripts?

If you have a large account and need to filter by multiple keywords, it's faster to export everything once (no keyword filter), then use our Transcript Filter Tool to quickly filter the downloaded files locally.

Required Fireflies Plan

TranscriptExporter requires Fireflies Business or Enterprise for practical bulk exports. These plans have API limits that make bulk exporting feasible.

Business & Enterprise

60 requests per minute

  • Export hundreds without waiting
  • Automatic request pacing
  • Bulk exports complete quickly

Why not Free or Pro?

Free and Pro plans are limited to 50 API requests per day by Fireflies. This makes bulk exporting impractical - you'd need to export 50 transcripts today, 50 tomorrow, etc. For this reason, we recommend Business or Enterprise for bulk exports.

Check your Fireflies billing settings to see your current plan.

What Gets Exported

You can choose what content to include in each transcript. All available options:

Core Content

  • Full transcript - Complete text with speaker names
  • AI summary - Fireflies' meeting summary
  • Action items - Extracted tasks and follow-ups
  • Keywords - Important terms mentioned

Additional Data

  • Meeting outline - Structured breakdown
  • Meeting notes - AI-generated notes
  • Questions asked - Questions from the meeting
  • Attendees - Participant information

File Naming

Each transcript is saved with a readable filename like "2024-03-15_Client-Strategy-Call.txt". All files are packaged in a single ZIP download.

Troubleshooting Guide

API Key Problems

"Invalid API Key" Error

  • Double-check you copied the full API key
  • Regenerate a new key in Fireflies settings
  • Make sure there are no extra spaces
  • Verify your Fireflies account is active

License Key Problems

"Invalid License" Error

  • Fireflies licenses start with FIREFLIES-
  • Double-check for typos (no spaces)
  • Ensure you haven't exceeded 3-device limit
  • Verify your payment was processed successfully
  • Contact support if purchased within last 24 hours

Rate Limit Errors

"Daily Limit Reached" (Free/Pro)

  • You've hit your 50 requests/day limit
  • Wait until tomorrow (resets at midnight UTC)
  • The extension will remember where you stopped
  • Consider upgrading to Fireflies Business for higher limits

"Rate Limit" Error (Business/Enterprise)

  • Making requests too fast (60/minute limit)
  • The extension will auto-pause and retry
  • Wait a few seconds and it will continue
  • This is normal for large exports

Export Problems

No Transcripts Found

  • Check your date filters aren't too restrictive
  • Verify you have transcripts in Fireflies
  • Make sure your API key has the right permissions
  • Try clearing filters and exporting all

Export Stops or Stalls

  • Check your internet connection is stable
  • Keep Chrome open (can minimize, but don't close)
  • Try refreshing and restarting the export
  • For very large exports, try smaller date ranges

Browser Issues

Extension Not Working

  1. Verify extension is enabled in chrome://extensions/
  2. Restart Chrome browser completely
  3. Check for Chrome updates
  4. Reinstall extension from Chrome Web Store

We typically respond to support requests within 24 hours on business days. For urgent issues, please mention "URGENT" in your subject line.
