Backup Your
Fathom Meetings
Local & Cloud

Create a complete archive of your Fathom.video history - transcripts, AI summaries, highlights, and action items. Export it all locally, then keep it current automatically with Pro auto-sync to Google Drive and Dropbox.

Your Fathom Meetings Are Not Really Yours Until You Back Them Up

Every meeting you record lives inside one account, on one vendor's servers, under one subscription. That is fine until it isn't.

Subscriptions end

If you downgrade or cancel Fathom, you can lose access to past recordings. Years of transcripts, summaries, and decisions can go dark the day billing stops.

Retention windows expire

Plans have data retention limits, and old meetings can age out over time. A copy you control is the only way to keep a permanent record.

Compliance needs proof

Legal, HR, and finance teams often need a durable off-platform record of what was said and agreed. A local plus cloud archive gives you exactly that.

A Complete Backup, Not Just a One-Off Download

Export everything once, then let Pro auto-sync keep the archive current forever

Full local archive

Export your entire Fathom history to one organized ZIP on your own computer: transcripts, summaries, highlights, action items, and metadata.

Cloud auto-sync (Pro)

Pro auto-sync copies each new meeting to your Google Drive or Dropbox as Fathom processes it, so your off-machine backup is always current.

Everything, every format

Transcripts, summaries, highlights, and action items in Markdown, TXT, JSON, or CSV - any content, any format, in any combination you need.

Everything Fathom Knows About Your Meetings

A real backup is more than the transcript. Choose any combination of the four content types, in any of four formats.

Full transcripts

Speaker-attributed, timestamped transcripts of every meeting, exactly as recorded, so the word-for-word record is preserved.

AI summaries

Fathom's meeting summaries archived alongside the transcript, so you keep the quick read as well as the full detail.

Highlights & action items

The moments you flagged and the tasks that came out of each call, captured so nothing important is left behind on the platform.

Metadata

Title, date, and attendee list in every file header, so each backed-up meeting is self-describing and easy to search years later.

Formats: Markdown, plain text (.txt), JSON, and CSV. Markdown is the most readable for browsing; JSON and CSV are ideal for structured, long-term archives.

How to Back Up Your Fathom Meetings

Set up a full local backup in about two minutes, then turn on Pro auto-sync so it maintains itself.

1

Install the Chrome extension

Add TranscriptExporter from the Chrome Web Store. It runs entirely in your browser, so your meeting data goes straight from Fathom to your own machine and cloud storage, never through anyone else's servers.

2

Connect your Fathom account

Sign in once through Fathom's official login, or paste a Fathom API key for the fastest backups. The API key path pulls transcripts in batches of about 15 meetings per request - roughly 25 transcripts in about 10 seconds - and works on every Fathom plan, including free. Both methods are built in, so you can pick whichever suits you. See the API key setup guide.

3

Run your first full backup

Select every meeting, choose your content types and formats, and export. Everything downloads as one organized ZIP with each file named by meeting date and title, so your local archive is searchable the moment it lands.

4

Turn on Pro auto-sync to the cloud

Upgrade to Pro and connect Google Drive or Dropbox. From then on, each new Fathom recording is copied to your cloud folder automatically as it is processed, so your backup stays current with zero manual effort.

5

Keep both copies safe

You now have a local archive on disk and an off-machine cloud copy that updates itself. If you ever downgrade or cancel Fathom, your entire meeting history is already safely in your own hands.

Common Questions

Everything people ask before backing up their Fathom history

What gets included when I back up my Fathom meetings?

Everything Fathom stores about each meeting: the full speaker-attributed transcript with timestamps, the AI summary, highlights, and action items, plus metadata like the meeting title, date, and attendee list. You choose which of these to include, and they all work in any combination.

Can I keep my Fathom backup current automatically?

Yes. The optional Pro plan ($6.99/mo) adds auto-sync, which pulls each new Fathom recording as it is processed and copies it to your Google Drive or Dropbox. After the first full backup, your archive stays up to date on its own with no manual re-runs.

Where does my Fathom backup get stored?

The one-time export downloads a single organized ZIP to your own computer, so you always have a local archive. With Pro auto-sync, new meetings are also copied to a folder in your Google Drive or Dropbox for an off-machine cloud backup.

What file formats can I back my Fathom meetings up to?

Markdown, plain text (.txt), JSON, and CSV. Markdown keeps a clean, readable record for browsing or feeding into an AI tool, while JSON and CSV are ideal for long-term structured archives and compliance records. See exporting Fathom to Markdown.

Is backing up my Fathom meetings allowed?

Yes. The backup uses Fathom's official API and only ever touches recordings you already own or have access to. TranscriptExporter is an official Fathom partner, and the meeting data is your own.

Should I back up my Fathom meetings before canceling?

Yes. Once your Fathom access ends you may lose the ability to open past recordings, so run a full backup first. Our guide on downloading Fathom transcripts before canceling walks through it, and Fathom data retention explains the timelines.
